The Better Business Bureau has warned about an email scam that targets QuickBooks users.
The scam works like this: the victim receives an email with a subject line along the lines of “QuickBooks Support: Change Request”. The email claims to be a confirmation from Intuit that your business has changed its name, and contains a link you can click to cancel the request. If you click the link, you are directed to a site that downloads malware to your device. The malware then allows others to capture personal information, including passwords, from that device.
As a general rule, if an email sounds even slightly suspicious, do not click any link in it. Contact the company directly outside the email if you are concerned, using a phone number, email address, or website you already know to be genuine.
