General Bookkeeping

Jacobs & Newmark maintains the books for closely-held businesses across the Chicago area, either as the outsourced bookkeeping function or alongside an in-house bookkeeper. Work covers transaction coding, bank and credit card reconciliation, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close. Clients receive financial statements on a set schedule rather than only at year end, which is what makes the tax planning and lender conversations later in the year possible.

What this covers

  • Transaction coding and general ledger maintenance
  • Bank, credit card, and loan reconciliation
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Month-end and year-end close
  • Financial statements on an agreed schedule
  • Working alongside an in-house bookkeeper, or replacing the function entirely

When people call us about this

  • The books are months behind and nobody has time to catch them up
  • The bookkeeper left and took the working knowledge with them
  • The numbers in QuickBooks do not agree with the bank
  • You only find out how the business did once a year, in April

Any of these is a reason to call. We will tell you what the situation actually takes before you engage the firm.

A first conversation is about what you run, how the books are handled now, and what prompted you to look. If we are the right firm we will say so, and if we are not we will say that too.
